So tonight was the Safari Cruise, informally referred to as the Booze Cruise. $32 for non-drinking, $45 for drinking, boat ride down the Yarra River. This is a yearly event, and according to the directors of "...Werewolf" everyone gets totally smashed. Like, puking over the side smashed.
Yeah, I didn't go.
Instead I shot Victoria an email on Friday, asking if she'd like to get together for dinner after I had rehearsal. She jumped at the idea, so we set a time and a place - 5:30 up at International House. I forgot to tell her what road it was on, so she attempted to get to the wrong place (did you know there was another International College? neither did I) and ended up not leaving her house until just past 6, because she went back to check the address.
So I hung out in the lobby waiting for her, with my book. It's the only way you can get in without a key. When it was ten past seven, I began to wonder where she was - it takes about 40 minutes to walk from RMIT to IH. So I headed to check my email and see if everything was alright - she doesn't have a phone.
Guess who I find wandering around the grounds? Poor Victoria had gone in the wrong gate (it was for some reason open) and then went looking for me. But once you're in, you can't get out without a key (I know, who does that?), and when she went back to the other gate, it was locked. So she was following a woman around, hoping that she would lead her out or at least towards the lobby, where she could ask someone where I was.
So with that sorted (and me giggling about her why-lock-gates-from-the-inside? rant) we headed out to Lygon Street. It's a bit of a walk, but doesn't seem long when you're walking with someone. We talked the entire way - bouncing around favorite poems, recipes, stories about friends and parents and siblings. We had dinner at my new favorite place (don't ask me what it's called, I just know it's really, really good and pretty cheap), sitting at the tables outside under the heaters. We talked some more, split a medium pizza and an entree-sized pasta. We were both STARVING, since everything had been delayed a little bit. Then, after another half hour of talking, we decided to splurge a little bit and get gelato for dessert. Actually the server talked us into it, but it was totally worth it. Mmmm. The bill was a very reasonable $40.40, and we walked back to the Royal Parade/Elizabeth Street tram stop completely satisfied. We were at the restaurant for a good two and a half hours, if not a little more, and had so much fun that we decided to do a just-the-two-of-us-having-a-meal outing again in a few weeks, though I'll see her twice a week at class.
Tomorrow I have a couple options - a bunch of us are either going to the Melbourne Museum or to the IH footy game. I'm considering taking the tram down to Queen Vic, which runs all day on Sunday, to have a look around; I'll see if anyone wants to go with me. Another option for the day is St. Kilda / Luna Park. We'll find out what's on at brunch, and how hungover people are. If everyone is miserable, then it's the Queen Vic and homework for me; if Amber and LaNisha are up to it, we'll go to the Museum.
I like Sundays! There's lots to do, surprisingly. Also, if you're a student you can get 20% off at the op shop on Sundays. So Sunday is a shopping day for me.
So yeah. I'll write down my rehearsal schedule and call Jenica and get some stuff done tomorrow. I cleaned my room today, it was an accomplishment.
Cheers!
